The Society of Master Saddlers

The Society of Master Saddlers (SMS) has developed into an international organization representing not only retailers but individual craft saddlers and saddle and bridle fitters, as well as manufacturers and suppliers to the trade. The SMS method of saddle fitting, and of training future saddle fitters, is established and proven to set the foundations of good fitting practice and excellent service for horse and rider.

The Society of Master Saddlers promotes the wellbeing and good husbandry of horses engaged in sporting, leisure, and work activities by striving to be the world-wide authority in the empathetic and correct use and fitting of saddlery.

Road to Becoming a Qualified Saddle Fitter

The journey to SMS Registered Qualified Saddle Fitter (QSF) takes at least 2 years to complete from introductory level to final assessments. Training includes compulsory elements such as the Introductory Saddle Fitting and Qualification courses which are a mix of on-demand online learning and practical modules. Once a registered QSF, all members are required to complete annual Continuing Professional Development courses.
